Alex Frost, born in Portland Oregon, took a chance and went in on an open casting call for local director Gus Van Sant’s latest film. He not only made an impression he landed the lead role in the film, which was based on the horrific Columbine shootings. A natural who never studied acting and who had no professional acting experience, made his acting and motion picture debut in “ELEPHANT” (2003) for HBO. Alex received critical acclaim for his starring role as a troubled teen-turned-killer, and the film itself went on to garner a huge buzz when it won the prestigious Palm D’Or award for best film at Cannes in 2003. Alex received a coveted ONE TO WATCH award at the Hollywood Life Breakthrough Awards in 2008.
Alex will truly make his presence felt in 2008 with the release of two films. Alex recently wrapped the Paramount feature film, STOP-LOSS, which was directed by Kimberly Pierce (“Boys Don’t Cry”) and produced by Scott Rudin. Alex plays a local boy in Texas who re-connects with his cousin (played by Ryan Phillipe) when he returns from Iraq. The film also stars Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Abbie Cornish. Additionally, Alex is stars in another Paramount feature, DRILLBIT TAYLOR in which Steven Brill is directing and Judd Apatow and John Hughes are producing. Alex plays an over-zealous bully in high school that terrorizes three freshmen to the point of them having to get a homeless man as a bodyguard (Owen Wilson.) He stars in the title role in the independent film CALVIN MARSHALL, a comedy about an earnest yet talent-less young man with the pipedream of making his junior college’s baseball team. Steve Zahn plays his coach. He recently wrapped production on THE VICIOUS KIND with Brittany Snow and Adam Scott.
In 2005 Alex starred in the gritty independent film “THE LOST,” directed by first-time director Chris Sivertson. Alex portays ‘Tim Bess,’ the introverted best friend of a psychopath, who four years earlier murdered two young women at a local campground and are now trying to cover it up. This film premiered at The South by Southwest festival and has a cult following of fans. Alex also stars in the lead role opposite Alia Shawkat (“ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT”) in the AFI 35 MM short film, “CACTUS COVE” directed by the Emmy Award winning director Anna Christopher. The film is a comedic story of a teenaged tomboy (Shawkat) in a small town competing with her best friend (Frost) in a chess championship. The film won best short film awards all over the country in virtually every festival it was accepted in. Alex currently lives in Los Angeles.
